A state minister representing the Gampaha District was recently faced with a rather embarrassing issue when a marriage broker (kapuwa) had lodged a complaint with the Biyagama Police.
The marriage broker from the Hanwella area had complained to the Police that his promised fee for services carried out was not honoured by the State Minister’s family.
The State Minister’s father-in-law had tasked the marriage broker with finding a suitable partner for his grand-daughter (the State Minister’s daughter).
The father-in-law is reportedly employed at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and had assigned the marriage broker to engage in the matchmaking process following a discussion at the facility in Katunayake.
According to the marriage broker, he had found a suitable partner, and after a courtship of about one year, the marriage had taken place last November at a five-star hotel in Colombo.
