Keep politics away from Easter attacks: President tells Opposition

13 Mar 2021

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today said the Opposition MPs should keep politics away from the Easter Sunday attacks and that they should prevent from making unfounded allegations over the attacks. Speaking at the first “Gama Samaga Pilisandara” programme in the Southern Province held today in Hikkaduwa, President Rajapaksa said one Opposition MP has alleged that President Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa and Nissanka Senadhipathi were behind the Easter Sunday attacks. “I told the CID to get the information from the MP if he has any on Easter attacks, as concealing evidence is a crime. When inquired by the CID, the MP has said he has no recollection about what he said and not aware of such information. These are the information the Opposition give to the people,” he said. The President said the Opposition always tries to come up with unfounded allegations. “Easter attacks is not something that can be politicised. It is a national issue. The opposition can make allegations based on truth. They shouldn’t mislead the public,” he said.
