Keheliya responds to tense situ at Hikkaduwa vaccination centre

28 Aug 2021

Recent video footage circulating on social media depicted a tense situation at a vaccination centre in Hikkaduwa, where members of the public alleged that health authorities marked their vaccination cards to reflect that they were vaccinated against Covid-19, when in fact they were not administered with vaccinations. Responding to this, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated that the situation arose as there was a clash between two groups. “Following an immediate inquiry into the incident at the Hikkaduwa vaccination center, there was a clash between 2 groups of people who insisted on priority to be vaccinated when the situation escalated. Some waiting in line, awaiting their jabs had already had their cards filled,” the Minister clarified via a tweet. He also noted that every citizen of Sri Lanka, including those in the specific village will have unhindered access to the vaccine.  “I urge those who attend the vaccine drive to be patient & allow the officials to efficiently administer the rollout as it is in the best interest of the country,” he said.
