Premadasa Stadium, Colombo Amidst all its pomp and pageantry, the second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) was officially declared open on Sunday (5) evening by its special guest and Tokyo Paralympic 2020 gold medallist Dinesh Priyantha Herath, who was invited to do so by the chief guest for the opening ceremony, Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa. The beautifully choreographed event had all teams in attendance with its theme song sung by Sri Lanka’s popular musicians Bhathiya and Santhush, Umariya, and Yohani De Silva, with a host of dancers in outfits, promising another colourful event as last year. The first game of the tournament kicked start with last year’s two finalists, winners Jaffna Kings taking on the runners-up team Galle Gladiators, from 7.30 p.m.
