Large gatherings will not be allowed during New Year season: State Minister

State Minister Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle said today that the Health Ministry will not allow anyone to hold any festivals that require large public gatherings during the New Year season. The State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control urged the public to abide by the existing health guidelines to prevent spread of covid-19. The Minister of State further stated that although the number of Covid patients in Sri Lanka is currently low, the risk of the virus spread remains after the festive season. She said a third wave has been reported in some parts of the world and that the number of patients in India has increased by 62%. The State Minister said that the existing security measures will be maintained and that it was unlikely to impose new restrictions.
