Legal action taken against 1,107 institutions for violating quarantine regulations

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today that legal action were taken against 1,107 institutions in the Western Province for violating quarantine regulations.

He said 6,240 institutions were visited by police during the last nine days to check whether they follow the requirements gazetted. He said 5,183 institutions have followed instructions and only 1,107 were found violating the social distancing requirements and other regulations. As per the gazette notification published in October, institutions are required to provide hand washing facilities, maintain a registry of those who visit the institutions and ensure that workers wear facemasks inside the premises. Police spokesman said that legal actions will be taken against the managers and administrators of the institutions that violated the gazetted regulations.
