By Mihi Perera The Public Health Inspectors' Union says it has received reports that some government and private agencies exist where Covid-19 patients are being kept hidden without informing the health sector. Its chairman, Upul Rohana, told The Morning that from now on, strict action would be taken against any institution or individual of any rank who kept such infected people hidden. "We have seen in some public and private institutions that when cases of Covid-19 are reported, they escape the procedures that should be followed because it creates problems in those institutions, such as having to quarantine the entire staff. They have been seen hiding the infected without informing the health authorities. PCR or antigen tests are not conducted. Due to this situation, the general public who go to seek services from those institutions are reported to be infected and we have been informed of this situation in the health institutions too," Rohana said. He said that all institutions are bound to inform the health sector if an infected person is reported in their premises. "No matter what level of administrative officer the patient is in any institution, they should inform happen authorities. However, if the Public Health Inspector or the Medical Officer of Health of the relevant division is not informed about this, we will take legal action in the future," he said.
