Youri Tielemans’ wonder-strike decided the tie after 90 minutes of thrilling football at the Wembley Stadium. The final between Chelsea and Leicester City started slowly in a half-packed Wembley which accommodated 21,000 fans from both sides.

It was in the second half that both teams started to be more positive. Tielemans’ strike came in the 63rd minute. He was allowed into space just outside the box and he made full use of it as he struck it cleanly to the top-left corner, leaving no chance to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Schmeichel stretched

Chelsea didn’t back down as they kept pushing but Kasper Schmeichel, the Danish goal-keeper for Leicester City, brought his A-game to the fore. His first save came when a corner was headed down toward the left pole by Ben Chilwell.

Schmeichel stretched fully and tipped the ball just inches away from going inside the goal. He was stretched once more when Mason Mount struck a volley with force towards the top corner.

A stunning end

However, Chelsea found the back of the net in the 89th minute when Chilwell struck the ball towards the goal side. It was partially cleared off the line by Soyuncu but the ball struck Morgan and ricocheted inside the goal.

Just when Chelsea was celebrating with their fans, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) stepped in and Chilwell was ruled offside in the build-up. It was written in the stars for the Foxes in their fifth final in the series, and they added another silverware to their cabinet.
