Lifting quarantine curfew : Public urged to follow guidelines

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa  The Police yesterday (8) urged the public to strictly adhere to the quarantine rules and regulations following the lifting of quarantine curfew, in order to control the spread of Covid-19. Speaking to the media, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said special operations will be carried out from today (9) across the country to arrest those who do not wear face masks and do not maintain social distancing in public. [caption id="attachment_83654" align="alignleft" width="300"] DIG Ajith Rohana[/caption] He also said police officers in civilian attire will be deployed to monitor self-quarantine activities. DIG Rohana urged the public and all institutions to strictly follow the “new normal” concept from today. On the recommendation of the Director General of Health Services and the observations of the Health Ministry, it was decided to isolate 25 police areas in the Western Province. Accordingly, 12 police areas in Colombo, eight police areas in Gampaha, two police areas in Kalutara, two police areas in the Kegalle District, and one police area in Kurunegala were declared as isolated areas until further notice, with effect from 5 a.m. today. Quarantine rules and regulations will strictly be enforced in the areas where the isolation order has been issued, he added.
