Limestone mining not the cause of Kandy tremors

04 Sep 2020

Further investigations into the cause of the tremors in Kandy revealed that the seismic activity recorded at the Victoria reservoir had no connection to the limestone mining in the area, Udaya De Silva, Senior Director, Geology at GSMB told The Morning. He previously mentioned that the cause of the tremors was the pressure of limestone fractures on Wednesday (2). The confirmed cause will be revealed on Monday (7) as the official report will be released.
