Litro to distribute 50,000 domestic cylinders from today

  • Shipment of 3,500 MT arrived yesterday
Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. announced yesterday (30) that the daily distribution of 50,000 cylinders of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), of 12.5 kg, 5 kg, and 2.3 kg quantities, will resume from today afternoon (30) onwards. It said that the list of dealers with stocks has been updated on the company’s official website (litrogas.com). A shipment of 3,500 metric tonnes (MT) of LPG had arrived in the country yesterday (30),  and the unloading of gas stocks commenced shortly thereafter. Last week, the Litro Chairman had said that a payment of $ 6.5 million had been made for two shipments of LPG, amounting to a total quantity of 7,500 MT. Accordingly, it was the first shipment of this amount, of 3,500 MT of LPG, that reached the Colombo Port yesterday. The LPG supply has been severely affected due to the economic crisis in the country. Consumers of privately-owned Laugfs Gas PLC have complained that stocks have been scarce all year, while state-owned Litro Gas Lanka has faced supply issues as well. Consumers stand in long queues for days on end to obtain a LPG cylinder, which has affected families, home-run businesses, small businesses, and larger restaurants.
