LNG power plant to be built in Kerawalapitiya

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal made by the Minister of Power to construct a 300 MW Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya as a solution to a possible power crisis in future. It has been identified that it is appropriate to build and operate this power plant using Built Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) method as an independent energy project through private investment. Therefore, the Cabinet has granted approval to search for an investor following the international competitive bidding process to complete the project within a period of three years.
