Lottery dealers seek assistance

22 May 2020

The All Island Lottery Dealers Association (AILDA) urged the Government to issue loans from state banks to recommence lottery sales. “Although lottery sales are allowed, dealers do not have the money to buy lottery tickets. We are looking to obtain loans to purchase lottery ticket consignments and requested the Government to make arrangements with state banks,” AILDA General Secretary S.S. Madurasinghe stated. Over the last few weeks, arrangements were made to pay the Rs. 5,000 allowance to lottery dealers as well. However, lottery dealers only received Rs. 2,500. As such, the Association also requested that the Government expedite the payment of the remaining Rs. 2,500. Madurasinghe noted that there were 4,800 lottery dealers islandwide, and that they earn the Government Rs. 20 billion in revenue per year.
