Main suspect involved in smuggling drug stock in Weligama identified

The main person involved in the smuggling of nearly 220 kilograms of heroin in Weligama has been identified, police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. Accordingly, DIG Ajith Rohana stated that he was a drug dealer named Nandun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata who is currently residing in Dubai. Eleven suspects arrested in connection with the incident were produced before the Matara Magistrate's Court yesterday (14) and remanded for 7 days for questioning. In addition to the 11 suspects, two other suspects involved in the incident were arrested in Kottegoda and Dickwella last night (14). Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the two suspects have been identified as those who aided and abetted the drug trade. They are accused of employing and financing people among the fishermen on the main fishing boat that was transporting the drugs. The two suspects are also to be questioned after obtaining a detention order. The arrest was made two days ago by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Coast Guard. The drugs and the 11 suspects arrested were later handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
