Maldives frees alleged Sri Lankan 'sniper'

A Sri Lankan detainee accused of being a sniper who was in Maldivian custody, has been set free. Lahiru Madhushanka had been accused of plotting to kill former Maldives President Abdulla Yameen. The Sri Lankan Embassy in the Maldives told The Sunday Morning that Madhushanka was released today and he will return to Sri Lanka tomorrow. The Embassy said that he was freed owing to lack of evidence.
