Maldives seeks clarity over SL Army Commanders claims

The Maldives has formally requested that Sri Lanka clarify a claim which was made by Sri Lankan Army Commander, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

Army commander Senanayake had stated during an interview for Raajje TV that several citizens from various nations including the Maldives were travelling to Syria via Sri Lanka.

It was reported that the communications director at the foreign ministry, Miuvan Mohamed had said Senanayake’s comments were “irresponsible” and could possibly be harmful to Maldivians living in the neighbouring country.

The Maldivian Government have made a request for the Sri Lankan Government to clarify these claims in the form of an official statement and to ensure the safety of its citizens living, and travelling there.
