Man deported from UAE arrested at Mawanella over extremist activities

A 44-year-old man, who had been deported from the UAE in December last year, has been arrested from Mawanella yesterday on charges of promoting extremism, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana today said. He said suspect has received donations in the UAE to promote extremism. He was deported to Sri Lanka on December 5 last year. The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has recovered a laptop from the suspect's possession. Meanwhile, a 27-year old suspect who was arrested by the Batticaloa Police over various offences has been taken under the custody of the TID. DIG Rohana said the suspect, who is a resident of Kaththankudy, had treated Mohammed Rilvan, the brother of Easter Sunday suicide attack mastermind Zahran Hashim. The suspect has also involved in extremist activities.
