The male body found near the Independence Square this morning has been identified as Rajeewa Prakash Jayaweera, a former Sri Lankan Airlines Senior Official, the Police Media Unit confirmed.
Jayaweera was also a freelance writer to a popular opinion website on a wide range of topics.
The Police are currently awaiting the post-mortem report of the body found with gunshot wounds.
Police Media Spokesperson, SP Jaliya Senaratne told The Morning that the Police currently suspects the victim may have committed suicide.
“Investigations into the death are underway. We have not ruled out any other causes. We are currently awaiting the post-mortem report.”
He said a pistol and letter suspected to be the victim’s was also found near the body.
The deceased is a resident of Milagiriya.
