Man who spat at PHI in Atalugama sentenced to 6 years RI

The man who spat at one of the Public Health Inspectors (PHI) who was performing duties in Atalugama has been sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment by the Panadura Magistrate’s Court today. He was arrested for obstructing the duties of four health officials including two PHIs who were visiting the area in December last year. Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said eight charges including criminal intimidation, criminal force and disobeying of quarantine orders were filed against the suspect in the court. The suspect was given two years rigorous imprisonment each for three charges and was fined Rs.10,000. Additionally, he was ordered to pay compensation to the four health officers who lodged the compliant against him. The court ordered the convict to pay Rs.100,000 each to the four health officials.
