By Dinitha Rathnayake   A period of 14 days of quarantine has been made mandatory for all arrivals in Sri Lanka, according to new quarantine regulations issued by the Ministry of Health. Releasing a statement in this regard, the Ministry of Health said the quarantine measures are imposed with immediate effect, irrespective of the Covid-19 vaccination status of those arriving in the country. The statement reads: “All travellers arriving from overseas, including Sri Lankans (also includes Sri Lankan seafarers and sea marshals), dual citizens, tourists, and foreign nationals (including valid resident visa holders), should be mandatorily quarantined at a quarantine hotel or quarantine centre, or Safe and Secure-certified Level One hotel until the completion of 14 days.” All Sri Lankan staff members serving in diplomatic missions and United Nations (UN)-based organisations overseas, who are holders of diplomatic, UN, or official passports, along with their parents, spouses, and children who accompany them, also should be mandatorily quarantined at a quarantine hotel or quarantine centre, or Safe and Secure-certified Level One hotel until the completion of 14 days. Furthermore, all foreign national staff members of diplomatic missions and UN-based organisations overseas, who are holding diplomatic, UN, or official passports, along with their parents, spouses, and children who accompany them, should be mandatorily quarantined at a quarantine hotel, or Safe and Secure-certified Level One hotel until the completion of 14 days. Meanwhile, all travellers of 12 years and above should undergo an on-arrival (day one) PCR test while all travellers of two years and above should undergo day 11 to 14 PCR testing. All travellers should be released from the quarantine hotel or quarantine centre, or Safe and Secure-certified Level One hotel after the completion of 14 days of quarantine with negative PCR test results for the PCR tests done on day one (on arrival) and day 11 to 14. The quarantine period of the abovementioned travellers will be extended if they are identified as immediate close contacts of a Covid-19-positive person. These quarantine measures are effective till 31 May 2021.
