Mangala arrives at CID to record statement for 2nd day

19 May 2020

Former Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) a short while ago to provide a statement for the second day. Samaraweera was summoned by the CID last Thursday (14) over the incident of transporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in the Puttalam District to the Northern Province to cast their votes during the presidential election last year. He left the CID after giving a near five-hour statement. The CID is currently probing the transportation of IDPs to cast their votes and has earlier questioned former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen for his alleged involvement in getting the buses organised for the IDPs to travel to the North. The former Minister of Finance is being questioned by the CID on his involvement with the payments made to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to transport the voters from the Puttalam District to Northern Province to exercise their franchise.
