The Minister of Power & Energy Mahinda Amaraweera said that the Ministry has taken a decision to match March, April May electricity bills to bill amounts of February.
Amaraweera further noted that consumers will be given a grace period of 2 months to settle the bills.
The decision comes after the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) received a large number of complaints from consumers noting that they had been overcharged for their power usage during the pandemic.
The Cabinet last week said it was considering a proposal to offer a 25% reduction on electricity bills for units 0-90 consumed for March, April and May this year, a three month grace period to pay the bills and not disconnect the electricity supply.
