Mayor of the Matale Municipal Council Daljith Nandalal Aluvihare was temporarily suspended from his post with immediate effect.
Central Province Governor, Attorney-at-Law Lalith U. Gamage announced the suspension issuing an extraordinary gazette notification.
Meanwhile, the Governor appointed Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena to inquire into the irregularities committed by the Mayor of Matale.
The report on the alleged misdeeds of the Mayor is to be handed over within three months, the Gazette Notification read further.
In addition, current Deputy Mayor of the Matale Municipal Council Sandanam Prakash was directed to take over the duties of the Mayor, utilising the powers vested in the post.
