Mayor assures to reopen Colombo after increasing PCR & Antigen tests

20 Dec 2020

Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake assured to take measures to reopen Colombo as soon as possible after increasing PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests to identify COVID-19 patients. The Mayor said she held discussions with the Army Commander and relevant authorities to increase the number of tests being conducted in Colombo. “We have a limited staff of 600 at the Health Department of the Municipal Council. We only have 25 doctors and 65 Public Health Inspectors. The nurses conduct PCR tests. The health officials not only conduct tests, they also trace first and second contacts of positive cases and direct them to quarantine centres. The government has paid its attention to the issue of limited health employees and I believe the issue will be resolved soon,” she said. Speaking at an event where the Hatton National Bank donated dry rations to be distributed among the people in isolated areas, the Mayor said the people should act responsibly during the festive season to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “The government can’t control the situation on its own,” she said.
