McCain, alongside Chung, visited the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy on the occasion of World Tourism Day. In addition, the ambassadors visited the Kandyan King’s Palace. In 2021, the Department of State’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation awarded the Sri Lankan Department of Archaeology $ 265,000 for the conservation of the Kandyan Kings' Palace and to upgrade the Archaeology Museum inside the Kandyan Kings’ Palace. The project is to conclude in August 2023. ;
