A discount card for the journalists to be used at over 200 retailers was introduced by the Mass Media Ministry yesterday.
The cards were awarded to several journalists during a ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute under the patronage of Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
“The government has a programme to encourage entrepreneurs. This is a step towards the empowerment of entrepreneurs as well as the journalists,” the Minister said.
The journalists would be able to purchase goods using the card at over 200 retailers, at the Siyane Avurudu Mela 2021 Trade Fair from April 1st to 11th and the Trade Fair on April 8th to 10th.
The discount card will be available to around 7,000 journalists currently in the media field. Also, the Rural Development Bank has made arrangements to provide an easy loan scheme for journalists.
The Minister also presented plaques to the institutions that sponsor this card.
