You would most likely have seen Thimosha Rajaguru’s face pop up on your TikTok feed by now. Better known as @haiyo.jijji, this sweet soul is inspirational and ever the optimist. Get to know more about who she is, and how she got into content creation and modelling in this quick catch-up.
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
A: I am Thimosha Rajaguru. I am 23 years old and I went to Royal International School in Kurunegala. I did my Bachelor’s in Marketing and International Business. Right after my degree, I started my MBA, completing it last February. Currently, I help my father with his business. I work as a part-time model and have done a few TV commercials – all thanks to the jawline that I inherited from my father.
I have four older sisters; I’m the fifth. I am a huge family person. My mother is a housewife and my father was a marine engineer; he’s now a businessman. I am a huge animal lover and love spending most of my time with pets. I love meeting new people, although I guess I am an ambivert. Spending quality time with my family is what makes me truly happy. Also, I am a huge tea person. Did someone say tea? Then we can be friends. I love exploring new things in life and most importantly spending some me-time, alone, watching movies, and studying new things because I always live with the mindset of “live like there’s no tomorrow.”
Q: What are your passions in life?
A: My passion in life is travelling, as well as finding and learning about new things, like following a course. I also like digital marketing. And this might sound weird, but I love the cowgirl vibe. I’m obsessed with my father’s cowboy hats.
I love helping people, too. If I ever won a million-rupee cash prize, I would buy daily necessities and donate them to low-income families. I’m not someone who celebrates birthdays but instead, I usually donate bags of goodies to families who need some help.
Q: A lot of people find your TikTok content relatable. Is content creation something that you are passionate about?
A: Well initially I was my sister’s phone holder because she was into making videos but eventually, I wanted to make TikTok videos, too, and go beyond my comfort zone. I started making TikTok videos during the pandemic back in 2020 and I slowly became obsessed with it. I am not good at dancing or singing so I only make “brown family” related content – basically, things that most people would have gone through when they were kids or even now. I was never into content creation and even now, I don’t believe that I’m a content creator. I love making people happy and talking to them whenever they feel bad. If I can put a smile on their face by making a TikTok video, then I would do that all day, every day. I have had people DM me and tell me that my content lifted their spirits. I love that I can do that.
Q: Is there anything you’ve been wanting to try in terms of content creation but haven’t gotten to yet?
A: I always wanted to make content regarding mental health, a positive lifestyle, and more funny videos using my voice. Unfortunately, I am a little insecure about my voice because growing up with four girly sisters and being the only tomboy in the house, I had/have a rough voice, but I hope one day that I can make more videos using my own voice.
Q: When and how did you get into modelling?
A: I was never into modelling, but I was into dubbing. Back when I was schooling, my mother and I used to watch this cartoon on TV, and we used to dub the characters. During my university days, my college friends convinced me to do modelling, but my answer was always ‘no’. Later, the same friends asked me to join a workshop done by The Agency after which I was selected in March 2021 to be a model. I did a few photoshoots and was in two TV commercials. Actually, modelling is something that changed my life. Just a simple decision can make a huge difference in life, and it can help you identify your hidden talents and showcase your true self.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
A: I see myself in a lot of places, and with more positive energy. I would like to be an entrepreneur – something I’ve always wanted to be – by making use of the things that I’ve studied. I would like to be travelling the world and ticking off my bucket list, too. I would also like to see my family happy and also be a nice, cool, and funny aunty to my nephews and nieces.
Q: Who are your role models in life?
A: My role models are always from my family. I never had celebrity role models. I grew up looking up to my father. I always wanted to be like him. He is my biggest supporter throughout my life. He gives me plenty of life advice and always pushes me to believe in myself. I grew up watching him do good and hard work. He’s a person who helps people a lot, with a pure heart. If someone comes to him and asks for help, no matter how busy he is, he will help that person and make them feel comfortable. And secondly, my fourth sister. She is my dream catcher. I always say that I’m here today because of her. She helped me be me; she’s helped me be more open to society by accepting challenges and failures in life, and to love everyone that I meet in life. I’m forever grateful for her.
Q: What does happiness mean to you?
A: I think happiness is about letting go of what you thought your life was supposed to be like and embracing where you are now and how special life can be without forcing things to happen – letting life flow with the right time and energy. Also, spending time with loved ones will always put a smile on my face.
