Meethotamulla garbage collapse victims to get compensation

The Cabinet of Ministers has yesterday (10) granted approval to pay compensation to businesses and self-employed persons affected by the collapse of the Meethotamulla garbage dump on 14 April 2017. The relevant cabinet paper was submitted by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. On 14 April 2017, a large section of the Meethoramulla garbage dump collapsed on surrounding houses and other premises. As per the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the landslide caused 32 deaths and affected a total of 1,765 people.
