A final decision regarding the methodology of holding the Provincial Council elections is to be taken at the Cabinet meeting to be held today (29), the government said.
Accordingly, it will be decided whether the Provincial Council elections will be held under the preferential system or the new divisional system.
Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, Minister of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government recently presented a Cabinet Memorandum containing two alternative proposals for holding the Provincial Council Elections which have been postponed.
A discussion was also held between the President and the Election Commission in this regard, where the President had stated that steps would be taken to remove the legal impediments related to the holding of the election.
