Further to the issue pertaining to the lack of milk powder in stores, Minister Dullas Alahaperuma confirmed that the milk powder stocks which have been held at the Colombo Port will be released within the next two days.
He made this statement during the cabinet media brief held yesterday (06).
"Under the directives of the Prime Minister, USD 50mn was released for the purpose of assisting parties who are unable to pay their international suppliers. The release of milk powder stocks will be done either today or tomorrow. The unloading of these stocks will happen. The Ministry of Finance and milk powder importers will also hold discussions simultaneously to ensure such disruptions do not occur in the future," stated Alahaperuma.
