The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) reported that a minor seismic activity was recorded in Ambakote, Digana.
Speaking to The Morning, GSMB Chairman Anura Walpola said: “A seismic activity under 2 in the seismometer was reported from the Ambakote area on Sunday, 29 November at around 8.45 p.m. We have a team deployed to the area who have been continuously monitoring the activities of the area.”
Walpola confirmed that no major impact had been recorded to the residents in the vicinity or the dam area.
He also stated that minor seismic activities can be expected in the future, and a proper analysis is to be made based on the frequency of them and whether there is going to be a large impact to the geo-spatial structure of the area in the long run.
