Sinhale Api National Organisation Chairman Ven. Jamburewela Chandrarathana Thera, who was arrested by the Colombo Fort Police over an incident that took place during a recent protest, was granted bail last (8) evening.
Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana said that the monk had allegedly attacked and damaged a Colombo Fort Police jeep during a protest held in the Colombo Fort area yesterday morning.
“Further investigations are currently being conducted into the matter,” he added.
It was reported that the protestors had stoned a jeep belonging to the Colombo Fort Police, causing damage to it. The jeep had been deployed to control the protest.
Ven. Chandrarathana Thera and another person had been arrested in connection with being members of an unlawful assembly.
