Moragoda appointment only after approval

06 Sep 2020

By Skandha Gunasekara The appointment of any ambassador, including one-time minister Milinda Moragoda as the High Commissioner to India with Cabinet powers, would only come into effect after approval by the Parliamentary Committee on High Posts. “All appointments will be made after the Parliamentary Committee on High Posts approves the nominees,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena said. The Minister went on to note that the committee itself needs to be appointed. “The Committee on High Posts has to be appointed and that will probably take place when Parliament sits next.” There has been strong resistance from factions attached to the Opposition as well as those siding with the Government against the appointment of Moragoda.
