More arrests made

By Skandha Gunasekara Several arrests were made yesterday in connection with Easter Sunday’s terror attack including that of the Deputy Mayor of Negombo, The Sunday Morning learnt. The Police Media Unit said that Deputy Mayor of the Negombo Municipal Council Mohamed Ansar of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had been arrested while in the possession of a sword, a Kris Knife, and 37 mobile phones. Furthermore, the Police also revealed that the driver of the ring leader of the group that carried out the Easter attack Sahran Hashim, who went by the name of Mohamed Sarif Lebbe, was also arrested by the Kaththankudy Police and handed over to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). In addition, Police Media Spokesman, in a statement to the media, said that 20 suspects had been arrested in last 24 hours over the Easter attacks, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to 100.
