Most Covid patients detected in Colombo are non-residents: CMC

According to Colombo’s Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Dinuka Guruge, most of the Covid positive patients reported from Colombo are working in Colombo but do not reside here. She stated this while participating in the 'BIG FOCUS' programme on Ada Derana. Rosy Senanayake, Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council, Dr. Ruwan Wijemuni, Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Colombo Municipal Council and Dr. Dinuka Guruge, Regional Epidemiologist of the Colombo Municipal Council participated in the programme. Speaking at the event the Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Ruwan Wijemuni stated that at present, the percentage of patients reported from the city of Colombo is 4%. He said, "When the second wave came, it spread like wildfire in some areas in mid-October last year. Thanks to the vaccination, we still do not see such a rapid spread in the city of Colombo." "Most of the cases we reported were from non - Colombo residents but working people in Colombo, but the vaccination was given to Colombo residents. That's why we saw small clusters in certain institutions in Colombo." said Dr. Dinuka Guruge. The Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council Rosy Senanayake added, "We were able to protect the city of Colombo because we have controlled the situation."
