A motion has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking an order prohibiting Mahinda Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, Ajith Nivard and several others from leaving the country. The petitioners, including Transparency International state that the general public is unaware about where the President or the Prime Minister are conducting their official duties. It was also mentioned that the petitioners have been reliably informed that the respondents may leave the country, and thereby avoid giving information sought by the Petitioners and consequently prevent proper investigation and/or determination of liability. "In such circumstances, unless and until a proper and comprehensive investigation to the causes of the actions/non actions, the result of such actions/ non actions are carried out, including a forensic audit of the reserves of the Central Bank (if necessary) and other relevant facts and data, neither the Petitioners nor the citizens of Sri Lanka nor the State itself would be in a position to ascertain such factors and take remedial actions so that no situation such as has taken place is repeated in the future," the motion reads. Attorney at law K Upendra Gunasekara appeared for the petitioners.
