MoU on Palali Airport development project drafted and awaiting approval: Minister

By Skandha Gunasekara The necessary documents for the Palali Airport development project have been submitted to the Treasury subcommittee for approval, The Morning learnt. Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga said the required document pertaining to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been drafted. “The paperwork has been drafted and submitted to the Treasury subcommittee on MoUs for approval,” he said, adding that Cabinet approval would be sought thereafter. “The drafted papers are on the new items our Government has included as well as funding for the project. Once the Treasury has approval, it will be put before the Cabinet for approval as well,” Ranatunga said. The Palali Airport is to be developed to serve as a regional airport and an international airport thereafter. Funding for the project is to be channelled by the Indian Government and the MoU is to be signed between Sri Lanka and India.
