MR ordered Chandrasena removal and Vithanage appointment at SriLankan

14 Nov 2018

The removal of Kapila Chandrasena from the position of SriLankan Airlines Chairman and the appointment of G. S. Vithanage to replace him had been carried out as per former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's instructions, sources close to Rajapaksa told The Sunday Morning Business. The appointment of Chandrasena took place on Tuesday, but was followed the next day by his replacement with Vithanage. Chandrasena is the former Chief Executive officer of SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka, while Vithanage is the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. Former Chairman Ranjith Fernando had resigned earlier in the week along with Director Mano Tittawella. A Presidential Commission of Inquiry is ongoing into irregularities at the airline in recent years which have led to massive losses.
