MR thinks that he is still the President: Thalatha

By Tharindu Chaturanga Justice and Prisons Minister Thalatha Athukorala said there was no opportunity for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to become the president of this country again. “The former President thinks that he is still the President,” she said, adding that by introducing the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, Rajapaksa tried to hold the presidential portfolio for life. However, with the changes introduced by President Maithripala Sirisena, Rajapaksa has no chance to hold the presidential portfolio again. Referring to the comments made by Rajapaksa regarding his intention to seek the Supreme Court determination, to contest at the upcoming presidential election, Athukorala stated that only President Sirisena could seek the Supreme Court determination on that matter.
