Multipurpose projects to be setup on lands allocated for post offices

16 Nov 2021

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to the proposal submitted by the Minister of Mass Media to implement multipurpose projects under public – private partnerships (PPP) within the lands allocated for the Department of Posts in order to provide for the requirements of the Department while ensuring additional income generation. It was noted that the Department consists of a network of 654 main post offices and 3,410 sub post offices whereas 154 out of the said 654 main post offices are operated in private buildings on lease. Although plots of land have been allocated in several provinces for the construction of post office buildings, the proposed construction of buildings has not taken place due to lack of sufficient funds. This move is in line with the Department’s objective of minimizing the difference between the income and expenditure of the Department via new income generation channels.
