Over 2,000 teams

Over 2,000 teams representing  districts island-wide with 24,200 men and women volleyball players, along with 220 Super League Players, are expected to participate in this important tournament.

Commenting on sponsoring the Tournament, Nalin Karunaratne Chief Executive Officer, CBL, said: “Munchee’s partnership with the National Volleyball Championship now spans 12 successful years. As the national sport of our country, we take pride in creating a strong platform for players to showcase their strengths and the opportunity to be selected to play at national level. We are committed to the sport and believe volleyball fans too are looking forward to this annual tournament.”

Format

This year’s Munchee National Volleyball Championship will be held for both men and women in two phases, i.e. the Super League and the Novices Tournament.

In the Super League tournament, 16 teams representing eight women’s and men’s teams each, inclusive of top national level players, will vie for the title.

For the Novices, players representing the 25 districts will compete against each district. Though these players are not in the top league, they and their clubs are able to play in a tournament that is recognised at the national level.

On applying

Throughout the years, by supporting this important volleyball tournament, Munchee has provided novice players a strong platform to demonstrate their sporting abilities and thus gain a place in the national team.

Applications for the Munchee National Volleyball Championship Novices Tournament will be accepted from 15 September onwards and for the Super League tournament, from 15 December. The district level matches are scheduled to commence after 15 September.
