  • Tells Prez to beg from creditors if must to ensure normalcy and to fulfil Govt.’s pre-polls promises
BY Buwanajee Coralage  Expressing his displeasure at the insufficient measures taken by the Government to ease the numerous hardships faced by the people, Colombo University Chancellor Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign if he is unable to provide solutions. “We are paying the price for vouching to bring this Government to power. There has never been a time where the people of this country participated in this many protests on roads and had to stay in such long queues. People are dying by suicide due to the lack of food to eat, and young children are being drowned in water bodies because parents are unable to feed their children. Therefore, we would like to clearly inform the President to leave if he cannot control this disastrous situation,” said Chief Incumbent of the Abhayaramaya Temple in Narahenpita Ven. Ananda Thera, whilst speaking to the media yesterday (23). He urged the President to obtain the necessary aid and loans, even if it meant that the President has to beseech creditors, so as to provide the people with essential goods such as food and fuel, in order for them to carry on with their lives as usual without suffering in hunger or standing in extensive fuel queues.  In addition, he noted how important it is for the Government to stay true to the pledges they made before the elections.  “When this Government was coming to power and we were vouching for them, we told the general public that we would provide facilities to access ample food, numerous jobs, build houses, and purchase vehicles, but today, our people are not even able to provide a single meal a day for themselves. With this unfortunate state in the country today, we won’t deny our help in bringing this Government to power, but today we’ve been made to pay the price for that,” the monk asserted.
