My Govt. failed to manage forex as well: Sirisena

11 Oct 2021

Former President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (10) accused successive Governments including his own, for failing to manage forex, which he says is the cause for the troubles the country is facing at the moment.  These remarks came during an event which was organised to commemorate the world’s first female Prime Minister, the late Madam Sirimavo Bandaranaike. “All those who Governed the country from 1977 during the open economy have failed to manage forex, including during my tenure. As a result, the people are suffering with food issues due to a lack of dollars,” the former President said.  Commenting on the Agriculture sector, Sirisena opined that the sector is in crisis with farmers left in despair. “What is happening is the biggest tragedy to befall Agriculture in recent history. There is so much pressure felt by the farmers,” he said.
