Nano-fertilizer controversy: Sunday Aruna Editor gives statement to CID

Editor of Sunday Aruna newspaper, Mahinda Ileperuma yesterday (23) gave a statement to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the lead news story published in the 24th October Sunday Aruna newspaper. The CID requested a statement from Ileperuma following a directive issued by President's Secretary, Dr. P. B. Jayasundera to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) yesterday (23) to inquire into the allegations levelled in the newspaper article. The Sunday Aruna newspaper reported an article titled "290 million to pay for Indian fertilizers in a personal bank account - President's Secretary P.B. Jayasundera has influenced," which caused a stir up and Jayasundera denied all allegations through a media release by the President's Media Division (PMD). "The article published in the The Sunday Aruna newspaper is a completely false, untrue and a malicious news item and that I strongly reject it," stated Jayasundera in the PMD statement.
