The Ministry of Education has called for applications from qualified candidates looking to apply for the post of Principal at 170 national schools.

“When President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was appointed to office, he found that 278 out of 373 national schools only had covering or acting principals, which was a very unacceptable situation. This he saw as a hindrance to the qualitative development of such schools,” Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris told The Morning.
It is learnt that the issue had persisted for closer to 10 years in certain national schools across the country.
“Our Government was determined to correct this immediately and we have by now appointed full-time principals to 108 national schools. To fulfil the rest of the vacant principal posts in the 170 national schools, we have called for applications from qualified individuals through the Ministry of Education website since 5 November,” Prof. Peiris elaborated.
Accordingly, the vacancies that are available in national schools have been listed under the following qualification categories:

- 31 vacancies for Class I of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS I)
- 28 vacancies for Class II/III of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service (SLEAS II/III)
- 111 vacancies for Grade I of Sri Lanka Principal’s Service (SLPS I)
