National Schools : Principal vacancies in 170 schools

By Sarah Hannan The Ministry of Education has called for applications from qualified candidates looking to apply for the post of Principal at 170 national schools. Peiris addresses the media at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Headquarters in Nelum Mawatha, Battaramulla, 09 November 2020[/caption] “When President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was appointed to office, he found that 278 out of 373 national schools only had covering or acting principals, which was a very unacceptable situation. This he saw as a hindrance to the qualitative development of such schools,” Minister of Education Prof. G.L. Peiris told The Morning. It is learnt that the issue had persisted for closer to 10 years in certain national schools across the country. “Our Government was determined to correct this immediately and we have by now appointed full-time principals to 108 national schools. To fulfil the rest of the vacant principal posts in the 170 national schools, we have called for applications from qualified individuals through the Ministry of Education website since 5 November,” Prof. Peiris elaborated. Accordingly, the vacancies that are available in national schools have been listed under the following qualification categories: The Ministry this time has communicated a transparent recruiting process through a point-based system approved by the Education Services Committee and the Public Services Commission, when considering these applications for the posts of principals. The deadline for the submission of applications is on or before 4 December 2020.
