National Youth Awards ceremony underway today

The 42nd National Youth Awards ceremony, the “Youth Arts Festival”, is scheduled to be held today (26) at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo. Jointly organised by the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the awards ceremony begins at 3.30 p.m. under the patronage of Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa and will see over 130 young artists in 45 categories – including Sinhala and Tamil short dramas, long dramas, prose, and verse compositions as well as singing and dancing – awarded for their efforts. In addition to the Youth Awards, the NYSC will also present certificates and cash prizes to the winners of competitions in the categories of Announcers, Speakers, Youth Singing, Folk Singing, Art, Innovative Tactics, and others. A number of high-ranking officials are expected to participate, including NYSC Chairman and Director General Damitha Wickramasinghe, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekera, State Minister of Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement Thenuka Vidanagamage, State Minister of National Heritage, Performing Arts, and Rural Arts Promotion Vidura Wickramanayake.
