Nations Trust Bank completes 20 years
Nations Trust Bank celebrated its 20th Anniversary on the 1st of July 2019, having been established in July 1999 with the acquisition of the Colombo Branch of the Overseas Trust Bank Limited.
Today, Nations Trust Bank is Sri Lanka’s most progressive bank and is consistently ranked amongst the best banks and business entities in Sri Lanka and has also received international accolades and recognition.
Nations Trust Bank has introduced many new banking concepts, products and services to the Sri Lankan consumer over the past 20 years. They were the first to introduce American Express to Sri Lanka and remain the single largest issuer and the sole acquirer for American Express in Sri Lanka and are also the largest issuer of credit cards nationwide. Nations Trust Bank was the first bank to introduce 365 Day Banking and Extended Banking Hours; they were also the first local bank to implement customer segment propositions with Inner Circle. Sri Lanka’s first fully fledged digital bank, FriMi.
Speaking about Nations Trust Bank’s 20th Anniversary the CEO, Renuka Fernando said, “Revolutionizing the banking industry gave us an edge and allowed us to compete with the big players and stake a claim for ourselves. We changed the game in an otherwise traditional banking industry and thus over the years we have achieved many firsts and we are continuing to do so. We took bold steps and now others are following us. But all this is only possible because of our stellar teams, who consistently and courageously rise to the occasion and challenge the norm. I also take this opportunity express our heartfelt gratitude to our customers who have placed their trust in us over these last 20 years; without them, there would be no Nations Trust. We deeply value each and every one of our customers.
“Our dedication to customer convenience and the future of banking is clear for all to see in the form of our exceptional digital channels, which are best-in-class and stand apart from our peers. Through FriMi we have made clear our commitment to ushering in the digital future of banking. Furthermore, our efforts to comprehensively open up banking to the digital revolution through our voluntary adoption and implementation of Open Banking APIs truly make us Sri Lanka’s most progressive bank. We have even set up our own innovation centre and dream workshop called the Kaffeine Lab so that we can continue to drive innovation. We are on a journey towards the ultimate goal of true Omni-channel banking and our passion for delivering nothing but the best in terms of customer experience and satisfaction is our driving force.”
The bank operates 94 branches across the country, boasting an ATM network covering 127 locations and 44 Cash Deposit & Withdrawal Machines, plus more than 3,500 ATMs on the Lanka Pay Network and is the issuer and sole acquirer for American Express® Cards in Sri Lanka.
