Netherlands and Belgium register massive wins

The third and final match-day of the 2022 Football World Cup Qualifiers kicked off on Tuesday (30). Netherlands, Belgium, Wales, Portugal, and Croatia are to return home with wins under their belt.

Netherlands hammered Gibraltar seven goals in their own backyard. The visitors enjoyed 80% of possession as they had 16 shots on target against zero by the home side.

Steven Berghuis scored Netherland’s first goal in the first half, and the remaining six goals came in the second half. Skipper Memphis Depay scored twice while Luuk De Jong, Gigi Wijnaldum, Donyel Malen, and Donny Van De Beek scored one goal each.

Belgium scored the highest number of goals in the qualifiers so far against Belarus on Tuesday (30 March). They scored eight goals and similar to Netherlands, six of them came in the second half.

Belarus had zero shots on target. Michy Batshuayi opened the scoring for Belgium. Hans Vanaken and Leandro Trossard scored two goals each. Christian Benteke, Dennis Praet, and Jeremy Doku scored one goal each in this one-sided affair.

Croatia’s 3-0 win against Malta put them on top of Group H. Skipper Luka Modric who just became the highest capped player for his country was amongst the goal scorers. Josip Brekalo and Inter Milan midfielder Ivan Persic scored one goal each. Portugal, after trailing in the first half, managed grind out a 3-1 victory over Luxembourg. Goals from Skipper Christiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, and Palhinha made the difference in the game.

10-men Czech Republic almost managed to earn a point against Wales on Tuesday. Patrik Schick was sent off in the 48th minute, after which they showed real grit until Daniel James found the net in the 81st minute.
