New Constitution : Alternative proposals handed to PM

Alternative proposals for a new constitution were handed over to Prime Minister (PM) Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday (16). All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Chairman Jagath Sumathipala and the Maha Sangha had presented the document titled “A Proposal for an Alternative Constitutional Arrangement for Sri Lanka” to the PM at his official residence in Wijerama. The document was compiled by the National Policy Council and the Subcommittee on Law, Public Administration, National Security, and Foreign Policy of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress, the PM’s Office said. The Subcommittee consists of Ven. Vajiraramawasi Gnanasiha Thera and President’s Counsels Manohara de Silva, Palitha Fernando, Prasantha Lal De Alwis, and Kapila Waidyaratne, Dr. Palitha Kohona, Prof. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan, Ranjith Tennakoon, Dr. Nimal Hettiarachchi, and DIG (Retd.) Nimal Wakishta.
