New COVID-19 variant; authorities say situation contained
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said today that measures have been taken to ensure that the new COVID-19 variant won’t spread in Sri Lanka.
He said the cricketer from England who was tested positive for the new COVID-19 variant had not come into contact with anyone in our country.
“We don’t think the new variant will enter into the Sri Lankan community. The patient is being treated in isolation and measures have been taken to ensure those who treat him won’t get infected,” he said.
